The fact that health disparities persist in the United States along lines of color, class, and ethnicity is a serious problem. The debate over the origins of these disparities engages some difficult questions, such as how race, inequality, and difference are lived in contemporary America. The goal of my blog is to grapple with this continuing debate, to unsettle, and hopefully to inspire. My current focus is on HIV in communities of color.
About Me
- Alex Cotton
- I am a graduate student in NYU's department of journalism. My current research focuses on the rise of HIV in young, gay New Yorkers, particularly in communities of color. I am interested in the role that African American churches can play in either helping or exacerbating stigmitization of HIV and homosexuality. I am also interested in the House Ballroom scene, a vibrant and creative subculture that has receieved too little attention from the public health establishment. aic225@nyu.edu
